Assignment

An assignment is a specific engagement in which a staffing agency places a worker at a client for a defined role, location, and period.

Each assignment has its own scope: the job to be done, the worksite, the schedule, the pay and bill rates, and an expected duration. A single worker may move through many assignments over time as one ends and another begins.

Either the client or the worker can usually end an assignment when the need changes, subject to the terms of the staffing agreement. Ending an assignment is not the same as terminating the worker's employment with the agency.
