Time-to-Fill
Time-to-fill is the length of time it takes to fill an open role — typically measured from when the position is opened or posted to when a candidate accepts the offer.
Time-to-fill is a common recruiting metric because a vacant role has real costs: lost output, overtime for remaining staff, and delayed projects. Employers use staffing agencies in part to shorten it, since agencies often have pre-screened candidates ready to place.
Time-to-fill differs from time-to-hire, which usually measures only the time a specific candidate spends in the hiring process. Both are useful, but they answer different questions.
